On Saturday, March 29th, the Alabama Republican Assembly met at Southern Legacy Barbecue in Hoover for fellowship and campaigning. The key note speaker was noted second amendment activist and NRA certified gun instructor Jan Morgan.
Morgan told the audience that she thinks her outspoken views on gun rights have probably landed her on Homeland Security’s Terror Watch list and she hopes to move up some spots on that list.
Morgan said, “I am really afraid that the core values (of this country) are at stake and are being jeopardized in ways we have never seen before. The core values of faith, family, and freedom are all under attack.”
Government is telling business owners like Hobby Lobby that they can not practice their faith in their business life. Meanwhile this same government is coddling Muslims. There are over 50 cases where our judges have ruled Sharia law trumps our laws regarding Muslims.
The traditional family is under attack and liberty is under unprecedented attack.
Morgan said, “We can not defend liberty if we have an unarmed population.”
Morgan said, “It is awfully lonely where I am. I believe the Second Amendment shall not be infringed in any way.” Morgan said there are over 30,000 gun laws on the books in the United States of America. We have remained silent way too long.
“When I was growing up the boys used to drive to high school and park on school grounds with rifle racks. And nobody was shooting up our schools. Guns don’t kill people, people kill. We don’t have a gun problem we have a heart problem.”
Morgan said that she is opposed to all laws infringing on Americans second amendment rights. Morgan said that this is where she said she got sideways with the NRA. “You bet I am against background checks. When you give the Federal government an inch they take 100 miles. I have watched the criteria on the background check grow and grow and grow.”
Jan Morgan said, Under Obamacare, government will have access to your healthcare records. If you ever were prescribed an anti-depressive the day is coming where you won’t be allowed to purchase a gun. That is coming.
Morgan warned, If your Doctor asks ‘Have you ever had a blue day?’ and you answer yes then the doctor follows that up with, ‘Do you have access to firearms?’ Morgan predicted that under Obamacare the government won’t let you purchase guns. Morgan said if you doctors asks that question respond with, “No I have never have a blue day and whether or not I have a firearm is none of your business.”
Morgan said that we are getting to a point where those people who have served this country in combat and then came back to America are distrusted by this government. “If you have ever served in a combat zone you might have PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) so you can’t own guns.”
It is getting to the point where anybody who believes in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ the government is not going to let own guns.
Jan Morgan owns an indoor firearms range in Arkansas with her husband. “We will not let anybody else oversee the range,” because of how seriously they take their responsibilities. Her range gets visitors from the United Kingdom and Australia. In Australia, the government decided to disarm the people. Visitors from Australia asked Morgan about Americans’ obsession with guns. Morgan told them, “Lets clarify something right off the top. America’s obsession is not about guns it is about liberty.” “In the 20th century over 170 million were annihilated by their own governments after they were disarmed.”
Morgan said, “I stand against any and all infringements of the Second Amendment.” If somebody makes a mistake early then they have to spend the rest of their lives unable to ever own a gun. Morgan she is not for laws that only the totally mentally stable can have guns. She is not for requirements that only people who have never served their country in a combat zone can have guns. She is not for only those who passed a written exam or passed a marksmanship course can have guns.
Morgan said, “The Second Amendment is not your gun permit.” The second amendment tells the government the people of the United States have the right to bear arms and you shall not infringe on that right. Morgan said that she has a friend who is a pastor, but because he made a mistake in his 20s he can not have a gun to defend his family. Morgan disagrees with a lifetime loss of gun rights for felons.
Morgan she was stunned and shocked when President Obama defeated Mitt Romney. Late that evening she went on to social media expecting to receive encouragement and hope, “What I heard is America is lost. We are doomed.” People were saying, Get off the grid and head for the hills and wait for the chaos. Morgan said, “It is not over until it is over.”
“Study the Founding fathers. Look at the odds they were up against.” They were outmanned, out armed, starving, often shoeless, some half naked; but some things are bigger than self. Some things are worth dying for. “I would rather die free than live a slave to a government.” When you hear a fellow patriot talking doom and gloom tell them to study the Founding Father. “Our founding fathers were raised to lay down their lives for freedom and many of them did.” We were raised to shed blood for freedom.”
Ms. Morgan said she used to work in television but, “I left mainstream media because of the liberal bias.”
Morgan said that we have allowed the government to chip away at the Second Amendment. “We have a compromised foundation and it will crumble under our feet.” “Our president is blatantly trampling the constitution on a daily basis.”
Morgan said of all the amendments the second one is the most important because without it we have no way of defending the others. Morgan said that when the next mass shooting happens at a school tell your friends that mass shootings are happening in gun free zones.
Morgan said it is important to speak to your friends about the Second Amendment. “If you lose some friends, who the hell cares, those aren’t the kind of friends you need anyway.”
The next meeting of the Alabama Republican Assembly will be in May.
