The Alabama Minority GOP banquet will be held March 21 at the Montgomery Alabama Renaissance Hotel and Conference Center. The event was set for January, but had to be rescheduled due to winter weather. Elbert Lee Guillory, State Senator from Louisiana, will be the guest speaker.
Alabama Minority GOP Chairman Phillip Brown said at the Republican Winter Meeting that this would be the first major Statewide event that the Alabama Minority GOP has put on. Brown said that they have been encouraging the RNC to bring those who have conservative ideals out of the Democratic Party and into the Republican Party because this is the place for them, for Alabama, and for the nation.
Sen. Elbert Lee Guillory is an African American Louisiana State Senator who switched to the Republican Party because he felt that the Republicans represented his values better that the Democrats did.
Of President Obama’s State of the Union address Sen. Guillory said on Twitter,
“1. Disappointing failure to address unemployment in any serious manner. 2. Disappointing failure to address runaway spending which threatens America’s future. 3. Disappointing failure to lay out a comprehensible foreign policy which protects American interests at home and abroad. 4. Just very, very disappointing failure to lead…to address America’s pressing problems.”
Guillory is a candidate for Lieutenant Governor in Louisiana.
Chairman Philip Brown is the minister of the Sandusky Church of Christ in Birmingham and also works as a teacher for the Jefferson County Board of Education. Chairman Brown says that he, “Feels that his calling is to help to shape the hearts and minds of young people who face a world for which they are not fully prepared.”
Brown was born in Detroit, Michigan and was raised in Elba. He is the tenth of twelve children of the late Hayward and Jean Brown and is married to the former Diane Jones of Birmingham, Alabama. They live in the Birmingham area with their youngest daughter. They also have five older daughters and four grandchildren.
Chairman Brown graduated from Faulkner University in Montgomery with a Bachelor Degree in Ministry and Biblical Studies. He is currently working on his Master’s degree in Educational Administration.
Philip Brown has announced that he is a candidate for the Alabama Public Service Commission challenging Republican incumbent Terry Dunn in the June 3 Republican Primary.
