Congressman Brooks said, “I’d like to encourage North Alabama’s high school students to come learn about an appointment to the U.S. Service Academies on Academy Day. Each year, the Tennessee Valley sends highly qualified students to support their country at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, or the U.S.

Merchant Marine Academy. It’s a testament to the patriotism and strong military presence in our district that last year, Alabama’s 5th Congressional District ranked in the Top 10 in the number of applicants who were accepted at West Point.

Rep. Brooks said, “This year, I have invited representatives from all five U.S. Service Academies to Academy Day. The academy representatives will answer questions and share information about their institutions. I encourage students, parents, and guidance counselors to join us on Academy Day. The deadline for nomination applications is Thursday, October 31,2013.”

2013 Academy Day will be in the Madison Academy Cafeteria. Madison Academy is at 325 Slaughter Road in Madison. The event will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

At Brooks’ invitation, representatives from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will attend.
