Representative Merika Coleman-Evans will host the Wenonah Boys Basketball team to acknowledge the victory of the boys for their unprecedented State Championship 3-Peat in the Class 5A Division, a feat that no other team in the higher divisions has achieved. The Dragons also moved up to No. 17 in the nation in the latest Maxpreps.com national Top 25.
The Girl’s basketball will also be in attendance, “I want to also celebrate the girls team that fell just a little short in the championship game, said Coleman-Evans.
In addition to Representative Coleman-Evans, the teams will be greeted by Governor Robert Bentley and members of the Legislative leadership. “The Dragons of Wenonah deserve to be recognized by the Alabama Legislature as well as the Governor of this state for all of their accomplishments. Like the National Championship teams visit the White House, the Dragons of Wenonah are visiting the Capitol,” said Coleman-Evans.
The “Celebration of Champions” luncheon is scheduled for May 7th at noon in the RSA 6th Floor Plaza.
