Former Acting Chief Justice Gorman Houston, 9 more current and former Alabama Supreme Court Justices Endorse Bob Vance for Chief Justice of The Alabama Supreme Court

Three Republican Justices, including retiring Associate Justice Tom Woodall Throw Support Behind Vance Campaign

Montgomery, Ala. – Former acting Chief Justice Gorman Houston and 9 other current and former Justices released “An Open Letter To The People of Alabama” today announcing their endorsement of Bob Vance’s campaign for Chief Justice of The Alabama Supreme Court.

“The Chief Justice presides over the Alabama Supreme Court.  He or she votes on every case and petition that is filed in that Court…” the letter states.  “Bob Vance has committed to working with the Associate Justices and Judges of the Court of Appeals in making these important appointments.”

In all 10 current and former Justices endorsed Bob Vance. They are: Democrats Former Associate Justice Sam Beatty, Former Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb, Former Associate Justice John England, Former Associate Justice Douglas Johnstone, Former Associate Justice Mark Kennedy, and Former Associate Justice Janie Shores; Republicans: Former Associate Justice Bernard Harwood, Retiring Associate Justice Tom Woodall and Former Acting Chief Justice Gorman Houston.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of Supreme Court Justices from both sides of the aisle,” Bob Vance said. “They represent many decades of combined legal experience, and they know what it takes to effectively and impartially enforce the law. They know I will not do anything to embarrass the legal profession or the state of Alabama, and I am proud they see fit to endorse me for Chief Justice.”
