From the Office of Senator Cam Ward
August 20, 2012 – Alabaster, AL –Republican National Convention Chairman, Governor Bob McDonnell of Virginia, has named Senator Cam Ward as the Vice-Chairman for the Subcommittee on Foreign Policy and National Security.
“I am honored to serve our country and our party on the platform committee,” Ward said. “The platform defines what we believe in as Republicans, and I’m excited to work with fellow conservatives across our great nation to shape our guiding principles. With the rising threats of instability in the Middle East and China’s continued disregard for honest trade policies, we cannot neglect foreign policy in this upcoming presidential election.”
Each state gets one male and one female representative on the Platform Committee. In 2008, the male member was then-Representative, now Governor Robert Bentley, who served as Alabama’s voice for conservative values. As Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee in the Alabama Senate, Senator Ward brings vital experience working to find conservative, business focused solutions to the problems in our judicial system and Alabama trade relations with the rest of the world. His degree in International Relations will also help guide the Foreign Policy and Security subcommittee’s mission of ‘America Leading The World.’
“We have a great group of true conservatives serving on our platform committee,” Gov. McDonnell said. “I’m happy to have colleagues like Senator Cam Ward to help us guide in this process.”
The Republican Nation Convention is being held in Tampa, FL September 1-4, but the Platform Committee will meet this week to begin their work on drafting the platform for Governor Romney, Congressman Ryan and Republican candidates throughout the country.
“This is going to be a great week spent helping our party to organize and ratify our conservative principles,” Ward said. “We’re going to rally our troops for the fall, and we are going to win the White House for Gov. Romney.”
This will be the 5th Republican National Convention Ward has attended and his first serving on the Platform Committee for the national party.
