TUSCALOOSA, Alabama –The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees is expected to consider approving tuition and fee increases at the system’s three campuses this fall.
Just how much students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the University of Alabama at Huntsville and the University of Alabama will be paying for 2012-13 should be discussed during a board finance committee meeting Thursday at the Bryant Conference Center.
The system office today declined to release details of increases to be considered. “Tuition increases are inevitable given the continued decline in state support,” said Kellee Reinhart, a system spokeswoman.
The Finance Committee meeting is set for 2:45 p.m. Thursday at Sellers Auditorium at the Bryant Conference Center.
The full board meets Friday. The meeting is set for 10:45 a.m. in the Sellers Auditorium at the Bryant Conference Center as well.
In April, the trustees approved a 4 percent tuition increase at UAB for medical students, 6 percent for dental students and 8 percent for optometry students. The hikes applied only to in-state students.
Last June, in-state tuition at the system’s three campuses was raised 7.9 to 8.9 percent at the system’s three campuses. Yearly in-state tuition went up 8.9 percent to $8,600 at UA; 7.9 percent at UAB to $7,740 and 8 percent at Huntsville to $8,094.
That included mandatory fees and was based on two semesters with 15 hours of classes apiece.
