Renewing business licenses could be trickier

Staff Report

Gadsden officials will mail out business license renewal forms this week, and Finance Director Lisa Rosser said she and her staff are bracing for complaints and lines at City Hall because changes in the law will require more documentation before a license can be issued.

Rosser on Tuesday told the Gadsden City Council that about 4,500 city business license renewals will be sent.

She estimated that 70 percent of renewals now are done by mail, but because of the changes there might be more businesses renewing in person, which might result in lines.

Rosser said 62 different types of businesses, ranging from electrical contractors to bail bonding services, that are under state boards now will be required to present proof of their state business licenses before city business licenses can be issued.
