MONTGOMERY | A bill prefiled for the 2012 session of the Legislature would modify the state’s workers’ compensation law to increase payments to injured workers by $20 a week, but would reduce long-term benefits. The bill also would give appellate courts the authority to reject trial court rulings in workers’ compensation cases.
The proposed changes could lower workers’ compensation premiums paid by businesses and make Alabama more competitive with other states in recruiting industry, said the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur.
