BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Birmingham needs to shut down its failing schools, fire bad teachers and principals and demand a world-class school district, Steve Perry, educator, author and CNN contributor, told a crowd at Harbert Center today.
Perry was the keynote speaker at the Birmingham Change Fund’s luncheon and didn’t disappoint the crowd when it came to his no-nonsense, fiery speech.
“You wouldn’t be in this situation if the system was working,” he told the audience. “The circumstances that created this are in place because, for some reason or another, you’re comfortable with that.”
“How is it possible for someone to get a raise when they haven’t raised the results?” he asked, saying he has no tolerance for teachers’ unions.
