Montgomery, AL – The members of the Alabama Legislative Black Caucus have elected Rep. Napoleon Bracy, D-Prichard, to serve as the Caucus’ new chairman. Rep. Bracy will serve as chairman for the next two years.
“It is an honor to have been chosen for this position,” said Rep. Bracy. “I am truly blessed by God to have been given this opportunity, and I look forward to working with our Caucus members over the next two years as we continue to fight for quality education for all Alabama children, equal rights and pay for minorities and women, fair contracting opportunities, protecting voting rights, and transparent government.”
The Alabama Legislative Black Caucus is the coalition of African Americans elected to serve in the Alabama legislature. While the House and Senate each have a Black Caucus, the Alabama Legislative Black Caucus is a joint organization including members from both chambers. The outgoing chairman of the Alabama Legislative Black Caucus is Sen. Bobby Singleton, D-Greensboro.
Rep. Bracy, who campaigned on a platform of inclusiveness and diversity, said he would work with the leadership in both the State House of Representatives and Senate to develop a unified Alabama Legislative Black Caucus Agenda.
“I believe in being unified and working together to achieve our goals,” said Rep. Bracy. “The only way we can stand up for the people we represent is if we all stand together.”
Rep. Napoleon Bracy is serving his first term in the Alabama House of Representatives. He is a lifelong resident of Prichard, and currently serves as the Chairman of the Mobile Democratic Party. He is married to Melody Bracy. They have three daughters: Kena, Brooklynn and Camille.
