MONTGOMERY—Recently, rumors have been reported that Speaker Mike Hubbard reached a plea agreement with the State’s Attorney General’s Office.
“There is not one grain of truth in those articles,” is how Hubbard’s attorney Bill Baxley addressed the issue when asked by the Alabama Political Reporter.
Baxley also said, “Neither side has every discussed the possibility of an agreement, it is preposterous.”
The rumor was that Hubbard would resign as Speaker, accept a sentence of 18 months, 12 of which would be served in Lee County jail with 6 months suspended. He would then return to the State House as a lobbyist.
According to his attorney this is completely false.
