From the Office of House Minority Leader Craig Ford
The Republican Supermajority violated the State Constitution by failing to follow the Constitutional mandate to reapportion the legislature in the first session following the completion of the decimal census. They further violated the State Constitution by fragmenting counties and by denying Democrats guaranteed procedural actions in the passage of the reapportionment plans. These violations of the Constitution are serious, and our lawyers are looking at these issues, along with numerous Federal issues regarding redistricting. Unlike the Republican Supermajority, we do not plan to rush into these important matters without careful consideration. Appropriate action will be taken after such consideration takes place.
